Q: QuestionIs there any plastic used in this maker? I'm looking for plastic free coffee machine where hot water and brewed coffee travels through metal and not plastics. Thank you
Asked by foxcreek.
This question was asked about the related product: Café - Smart Drip 10-Cup Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker with Wi-Fi - Brushed Stainless Steel
- A:Answer There is plastic in the coffee maker. The water reservoir is made of ABS plastic and the lid of the carafe is plastic. I’m unsure of any internal tubes, etc. I’m very concerned about plastics as well and continue to try and eliminate them wherever possible (reusable straw, metal water bottle, reusable grocery bags, ziplock and Saran Wrap alternatives etc.) but the stuff is everywhere. That said, I haven’t found a real electric coffee maker that is as you described. I used a glass French press for years in college and it worked well. It’s too small for the coffee drinking demands of our family now. And tbh, I judge that on the whole, because I don’t leave the water in the reservoir but brew manually, the water is not touching any plastic for more than the space of five minutes. The water isn’t heated inside the plastic reservoir. The only exception is the plastic lid of the carafe, which is a concern given that coffee is both hot and acidic. We could decant it immediately to a giant thermos. We might do that. If you truly want a coffee maker with no plastic I’d recommend a percolator (they can be bigger), French press, or go cold brew with an all glass set up. Hope that helps!

Q: QuestionI'm having issue with my coffe maker. I keep getting the add H2O message despite having water in the tank. It will run for like 2 seconds then the message repeats and continus to do so. I've tried unplugging it to see if it will reset its self but no luck

- A:Answer Hi there, and thanks for letting us know about this issue. We truly hate to hear you’re getting a recurring error message – we know this must be frustrating. This certainly isn’t the performance we would expect from our model, and we regret the inconvenience you’ve had. For an add H2O message, we would recommend making sure the water level is correct. If you press the brew button, ’10 cups’ should appear on the screen. You can use the dial to adjust the number of cups and make sure the appropriate amount of water is in the reservoir. Then press the brew button again. If there’s enough water but you’re still getting the message, we would recommend unplugging for a couple minutes then plugging back in; as you’ve already done so, if you’re not able to resolve the issue with the error you may want to take advantage of the warranty. Warranty information is available on page 16 of the manual; if you’d like to view that online, you can do so by going to our Café Appliances website, looking up the model number and going to the product page. We hope you’re able to get this issue solved, so you can enjoy your coffee maker without further inconvenience. If you have any other concerns or questions, we’re happy to help any time. Best wishes! -Sarah@Café

Q: QuestionHi! Is the water reservoir plastic or glass? Are all the plastic parts BPA free?
Asked by Molly245.
This question was asked about the related product: Café - Smart Drip 10-Cup Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker with Wi-Fi - Matte Black
- A:Answer My understanding from the company is that the reservoir is made of ABS plastic and that they make no claims as to it being BPA free. Personally I’m very concerned with plastics. We use metal bottles, avoid single-use, use reusable ziplock and cling wrap alternatives, etc. But we had trouble finding a really good coffee maker. In an increasingly pod-dominated world there are fewer drip options that are well made enough as to not be in the landfill 2-3 years out. My feeling with this coffee was that because I brew manually, the water isn’t sitting in the reservoir leaching anything. It isn’t heated in the reservoir obviously. The unit itself seems to be metal although internal tubing, gaskets may likely have plastic components. Brewing 10 cups takes 5 minutes. The lid does have a plastic straw that sits in the hot acidic coffee. But if we don’t pour out/drink our coffee quickly in the morning we can pour out what’s left into a thermos. The glass carafe I don’t think has a lid issue like that. It just sits on top. If you want to really go plastic free, more power to you! I used a French press for years. They have thermal ones. Percolators are great too. I’ve seen an electric one but it was old and I’m not sure it had no plastic components touching consumables. Hope that helps!

Q: QuestionWhy is the light around the brew/select knob pulsing? We just got this and the light around the brew-select knob is slowly pulsating. What does this mean? Is this normal?
Asked by SteveMH123.
This question was asked about the related product: Café - Smart Drip 10-Cup Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker with Wi-Fi - Matte White
- A:Answer Ours will only pulse during the brew cycle. Have you connected your coffee pot to your wifi? It may be pulsing as an indicator the smarthome connection is missing? Just a thought.

Q: QuestionMy GE Cafe drip coffeemaker stopped brewing. Light's on, and there's click when I hit the brew button, but then nothing. It just sits there. Thought about cleaning the tubes coming out of the heating element but don't have a tool to unscrew it. Thoughts?
Asked by BWitty.
This question was asked about the related product: Café - Smart Drip 10-Cup Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker with Wi-Fi - Matte Black
- A:Answer Please don’t clean the tubes. Your efforts won’t fix the problem with this issue. It’s a design flaw and most will stop working at just over 365 days. My sits on the counter with the little light going in circles. Best thing to remedy this issue is to use a BFR..
