XL merely refers to ink volume in the cartridge. If the cartridge number matches with what’s recommended, XL merely gives a more printing pages than a regular cartridge.

Yes, the difference between 211 vs 211XL or 210 vs 210XL is that the XL has more ink. Other than that, the 210 and 210XL or 211 and 211XL are the same size cartridges.

According the box, the side panel lists the Cannon Models. I have a MX410 printer which is listed on the side panel of the box. Your printer MP480 is also listed on the side panel of the box. It looks like the 210xl and 211xl can be used. To make sure I would ask a Best Buy associate to confirm. Hope this answers your question.

Yes. Just has more ink. My understanding is that regular ink cartridges print about 200 pages, and XL ink cartridge double the printing amount.

Yes you can use CL 211 or 211 XL the XL means larger quantity of ink per ink cartridge, the C is for color. 
Same thing applies to black 210 and 210 xl where xl is for extra large quantity. 
If you get the dual pack you save some money with 210 XL (black) and 211 XL (color) and added 50 sheets of photo paper size 4" x 6"
The combo pack savings includes MP 480 printer cannon model capatibilty as specified on the side of the box so you're ok with this. baba
