It's a dust cover for the paper tray when you use legal size paper.

Please try again later.presuming it is the 1.5 inch by about 10 inch while plastic piece with a couple of angles to it.....this is a temp cover that goes on top of the paper drawer at the front of the printer when you are using legal size paper. Because to use that size paper the paper drawer needs to be left about an inch and a half open to fit. So in their wisdom Canon provides this little dust shield as a temporary cover for the gap caused by leaving the drawer partway open. Genius or dopey either way it works but thankfully i dont use that size paper very often so i dont really need it.
