Moreover, I would also recommend switching to "Mono" by default in printer preferences to make sure it will use the black cartridge only and not a mix of CMY to produce black color. Whenever you need to print in color later, you just have to manually go to properties in print dialog box of the app you will be printing from to change printing to Auto or Color for that printing session. The default option should theoretically remain "Mono".
