• Only if you are tryng to use your old EF lenses. The new lenses fit without the adapter.

• If you have an EF lens, you need this adapter. The connection on the camera is for RF lens.

• It's so you can use your EF lenses with the mirrorless cameras. If you purchase the R lenses then, no you wouldn't need this.
