It could work, but you probably want a wider lens like the canon ef-s 10-18mm to get a wider view of the sky. If you are buying the lens primarily for night sky photos, go with the 10-18mm. It is even lower in price than this one right now. This lens is made for mainly Macro photos. The equivalent focal length is 56mm which is pretty narrow for night sky photos. The 10-18 mm equivalent is 16mm-29mm. So even the 29mm is going to be almost twice as wide as the 35mm lens.
