You don't NEED this lens. It works great for fixed portraits and product photography, but this lens doesnt zoom or anything. It only has the 50mm setting, and creates some beautiful effect when used with the right lighting conditions. Hope that helps.

This is a prime lens that has a max aperture of 1.8 so you get a much more shallow DoF compared to the kit lens do it lets more light in than the kit lens. Better for low light better for general photography.
