This camera has Auto and Manual focus on both its lenses. The setting to make the background blurry is called an aperture setting. If you have the camera set up on the"Av" setting, it will focus more on the subject that's close and blur out the background. The farther the background, the blurrier it gets. This feature is also available in the "Portrait" setting but depending on the lighting the camera will automatically use the flash and pictures don't come out as good.
