I purchased the Canon T8i recently and also wanted a long range lens for wildlife photography. The T8i is compatible with Canon EF and EF-S lenses. After much research and reading reviews I decided on the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM zoom lens. This is a large, heavy and rather expensive lens but with lenses - you certainly pay for high quality. This lens has image stabilization which is very important for long distance shots. I typically use a tripod and Canon's remote shutter control app on my cell phone when shooting with this lens. Taking photos of nesting Osprey's at 25 yard distance, I've captured full frame photos of the birds landing in a nest with full frame wingtip to wingtip shots at 400mm. Even in flight, you can get extremely crisp shots with no blurring which is very impressive at f 5.6. Zooming in on the photos in photoshop, you can see extremely fine detail of the wing feathers. I've attached one of the photos in a much reduced file size for reference. This lens is a significant investment but if you want really good distance shots with this camera - it's well worth it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4 - 5.6 III Telephoto lens and get great distance shots, The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Telephoto Zoom Lens would also be a great choice, but I had the first lens from my Rebel T6, so no need to change.
I would recommend:
