I personally prefer to use a laser printer for my routine document printing. I purchased the iP872 mainly for the photo printing especially the 13"x19" print format. With all the proper ink cartridges installed this printer prints documents very well. I do not see a need for an additional document printer. With that said if you print a large amount of plain paper documents this printer will not print them as fast as a laser printer or monochrome ink jet.
