The MX922 measures approximately 20" from side to side, about 15" from front to back, but add another inch to allow for the power plug (located at rear left side of machine) and the height is 9" with the document feeder (located on top) closed. With document feeder open, the height is close to 11". In order to lift open the entire top, to place an item directly onto the platen, you'd need a total of about 20" height within the cabinet. I keep the front of mine closed unless I'm printing. With it open, (to 'catch' your printed/copied docs) you need another 5-6" of clearance in the front. Hope this helps!
