Network means multiple computers can connect to it to print and scan. Truly all printers are like that.

You can hook up the printer to your network and access it that way or if you don't have a network, you can hook your printer directly to your cell phone through an "ad-hoc" network. Not all printers support the "ad-hoc" networks. I have an MX922 and it doesn't support it.
