You can print B/W. I don't think I would try to print with any cartridges out, but if you have ink in the large black ink cartridge, you can tell it B/W. You might still be pestered with the out of ink warnings, but only for the ones that are empty. You can still print.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Press OK on printer to skip low ink warnings. Tanks usually are not empty when printer says it is. . Dont need to remove tanks. Choose black and white printing from print setup menu to get black and white only.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe you just tell it Grey scale or B&W in printer options and it should do it. Problem is sometimes Black is actually oversaturation of all colors depending on the setting. Go through your setting in properties. Or ask on Canons Website.
