• You can load paper in the back or you can come from the paper tray underneath it, so your shelf should be fine if you print from the bottom tray

• It front loads for documents. There is a slot top rear for photos.

• Yes. The paper can load from the front in a tray that slides out and you can also load paper thru a loader on the top. The loader on the top is more for loading photo paper and the like.
