“Is it necessary to go through the canon app in order to print? I am not having consistent success with this printer”

• If you are printing from your smartphone, yes, you need to use the canon app. If you are printing from your computer, once you have added the printer to your computer, make it your default printer. Then just open the document you want to print, select print and it should work.

• No, I can print directly from my phone to the printer. I can also print directly from my MacBook to the printer.
