“I need to be able to take pictures indoors where bright light is coming thru large windows, when I take a picture the room comes out very dark. How can I make sure the flash will go off when the room is already somewhat bright?”

Most cameras will struggle with this. This camera does give you the option to have the flash go off even if the camera thinks it is not needed because of the bright window light. This should help.
