“When I test this model at the store, using a lot of zoom, it can take a long time for the camera to focus. If my hands are not perfectly still and the camera moves around, the focus will keep coming and going. Does it do this in the real world?”

Yea. I'm returning the camera because of this issue. Sometimes it will never focus, the little square will keep bouncing around and I can't get it to bracket around the subject I want to photograph. This is the Canon SX 720.

With a 40X zoom - you will need a tripod or set the camera on a solid surface and put the timer on. It takes great photos.

mine did the same thing,i didn't notice till after i bought the stupid thing...the salesman was only trying to make a sale...when i took it back the guy told me it didn't have an image stabilizer...

Happly no problems with my camera. It does take a little longer to adjust than my daughters camera. But not that long. I'm never perfectly still, and photos are good.
