A:Answer Do not gasp if running, climbing. If someone behind you is a loud talker with a deep voice or a high pitch squeak, that audio will interfere with your narrative. However, if you are vlogging and turn camera away from facing you, speak clearly, enunciate and most of what you said will be captured. Have had problems with some ambient noises: gusting wind, waves (the ones that bring out the yellow flags), passing boat motors (jet-ski, outboard, diesel rumble), spray fountains. But, wind in the pines, calling doves, may be a nice touch if you are not talking.
Mine captures sound in front, to the sides, and behind the camera body. I can hold the camera at arms' length and still get my voice while speaking at my normal volume.
Note there is no way to attach an auxiliary microphone.
If you can go to a store, get a demonstrator with an SD card, go outside in the parking lot or in a busy part of the store/mall and experiment. Next, play back on a computer or TV in the store. It is suggested that you have a true expert user lead you through the different parameter set-ups that influence video and audio.
