Only special paper. This is a dye-sublimation printer so can't print on the "regular" inkjet paper. The smaller printers that you see like this with cartridges are pretty much all like that. Having said that, I don't feel they are price gouging on the paper and ink, and they also come in sets, so whenever you buy paper you get another cartridge.
