Initially they will hold but as you stated, Florida is not the best friend of these velcro strips. The door opener device comes with a small bracket. This bracket will hold the device for a long time with no weather concerns. The bracket is very easy to install. First you attach the bracket to the wall (or ceiling) with two screws or two toggle bolts. (also included) after you attach the bracket to the wall, the device just snaps onto the bracket. Be sure to install it near an available wall outlet. My device is a great asset to me. Hope your's is the same. Good Luck!
