I don't know if you can disable the extender, but Ring sells a chime without the extender feature.

Please try again later.This really doesn't increase the the network usage, it just simply connect to the camera so that your range is farther,other than that it is really only used if you have it set to ring on motion settings in my case I have it set to only ring when someone presses the doorbell because I get notifications on my phone for motion settings
