• It can but it depends on your vehicle. If your power outlets stay powered up when it isn't running it does. However if not it can be wired to your car's battery. Note of caution: If wiring directly to the battery, be sure to put in a fused link close to your battery.

• Only as long as there is power to the camera is on. I am not aware if there is a standby mode that turns the camera on when there is any disturbance to the auto.
