“Can it be hardwired in for power so when i turn off the key it will automatically power down or do i have to use the cigarette lighter plug? I don' want to have to unplug it everytime i turn off the vehicle.”

If you have Auto Shutoff the downside is that the dash cam turns off. I’m sure that they could have found a terminal that is powered up with accessories even if engine shuts off. But after discussing with Best Buy techs the minimal amount of money saved by letting engine turn off automatically, every time I start my engine, I disable the engine auto shut off. In that way, whenever I’m driving, the engine is always on, abs do is the dash cam.

Usually you at least need to have on "accessory power" in your car to get power to the power outlets in your car. So yes, it should go on and off automatically when you start and stop your car. That's how it works for me!
