Thank you for your question about our Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat. If your thermostat is connected to a heat-only, cool-only, or heat pump system, then you will need a C-Wire. The batteries are designed to be back-up if the thermostat is not able to powershare with your system. If the thermostat is functioning on batteries only you will lose the WiFi capabilities of the thermostat.
