It has been rigorously tested to ensure safety, and is backed by our product’s Energy Star rating. At this time, we do not have a thermostat that allows for a higher differential. The batteries are designed to be back-up if the thermostat is not able to powershare with your system. If the thermostat is functioning on batteries only you will lose the WiFi capabilities of the thermostat. • A:Answer Hi Cindy, yes the Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat has AAA batteries as back up, in case the thermostat cannot get power from your system. If your thermostat is running on batteries only, then you will lose the WiFi capabilities, but you will be able to control the thermostat manually. Thank you for your question and have a great week.
