That's exactly what this is for. The commander core is powered by sata and an internal usb connection. You can then connect up to 6 fans and power them up. You can't power the rgb lighting on those fans unless they are corsair fans, but if you are simply looking to power and control fans, you can do so.

Yes, the COMMANDER CORE XT would be an appropriate controller if your motherboard does not have enough fan headers. In addition to providing support for up to six of our RGB fans, you'll also be able to customize the cooling performance via our iCUE software. There are various cooling presets to choose from such as Balanced, Quiet, and Extreme, however you may also create a custom fan curve where your fans are dead silent at low workloads, then have them ramp up during more strenuous tasks such as video/photo editing or gaming.
