Is the plug for the cpu fan a 3 pin or 4 pin null

It is a 3 pin, which concerned me when my CPU Cooler slot was a 4 pin, but I plugged it into the 4 pin and left the 4th just there and it worked just fine for me, You shouldn't have any issues.
