they have the the things you push together to make it bigger or smaller on the ends of the cable if that make sense

An 8x4 could make a 12 pin. When you say it like that you are talking about 1 cable. This PSU has 2 4x4 cables, 1 end is an 8 pin the plugs into the PSU and on the other end is the 4x4. A 4x4 is 2 4pin connectors put together on 1 cable. They have a little tabs on the connectors so you just line up the 4pin next to each other to make a 8 pin, and on the second 4x4 cable, don't put them together for the 4 pin. It has 3 6x2 cables for things like GPU. Each of the 3 has an 8pin that pugs into the PSU and on the other end it branches off into 2 6x2. Like my RTX 2080 takes an 8 and a 6 power. So like the 4x4 you line up the 2pin tabs to make the 8. And don't do that for the 6. So to power my 2080 I only need 1 6x2 cable. In short this PSU will work fine to power that MOBO.

I had the same question when I was hooking up the power supply when it came to the 8+4 (CPU_PWR1 + CPU_PWR2) on my Z490 motherboard. After googling and reading quite a bit of what others were doing with their rigs, I came to the following configuration of only using the 8pin connector (CPU_PWR1). There is a cable included with the power supply that is 8 pin on both ends, one end is marked “CPU” - this is the cable that I used. My limited use of my rig so far runs completely without issue in this configuration using a flight simulator software. For others online that I read about, some stated (if I recall correctly) that for extreme overclocking that CPU_PWR2 may be needed. Another recommendation was to use CPU_PWR1 first, if there seems to be a CPU stability issue then add power to CPU_PWR2 and see if CPU stability recovers.
