• You will need to check your BIOS. It may already be running at that speed, but you'll only know by checking that first. Most "budget-friendly" boards default to 2333 or 2666 MHz.

If your motherboard supports it (supported memory speeds are listed under motherboard specifications), then it will do no harm.
