Can I use tap water null

I use tap water but it’s well water and softened. If you have city water you may have different results. It has a UV purifier but if you have high chlorine levels you might get a smell? At my last place (different humidifier) I swore my place smelled like a hit of swimming pool. Not overwhelming but I only smelled it in the winter. Results may vary.
