• Yes, but some carriers require the purchase of their service for a year to help off set the cost of the phone. I can't remember if Cricket requires this but you can find this info in any store that carries them. In my case Best Buy's employees knew or were able to find out the answers to any questions I had about all of the product they carried.

• Technically yes, officially not. You should flash the phone to unlock it and used for any gsm company.
