I’ve since discovered that the exFat format apparently isn’t the best to use with a Mac as a drive to link a huge number of magazine ad files to. I didn’t quite do my research.

Please try again later.The Crucial Team Hello, thanks for getting in touch, it's because a disk that was mounted in the Finder is no longer mounted, and you didn't follow the correct steps to eject it before it disappeared. That makes your Mac unhappy because it's possible, though unlikely, that the disk could be damaged if you don't eject it properly. When you unplug your USB hard drive without ejecting safely, your data may be compromised because it could still be in the process of writing it into the drive. Meaning that your file may not be saved to the drive or could end up being corrupted.
