you will need a usbc to usba cable. It will be slower than native usbc\thunderbolt

If you have a USB A port, you'll need a USB C to A cable. Regarding the windows S mode, in S-mode windows will only allow apps from the Microsoft store however you should be able to access the USB drive using file explorer.
