It is not supposed to come off. But it does because of poor quality
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Good question! My set has not shown any signs of the coating coming off. With that said, I don't wash them in the dishwater, only wash them by hand. This is just my normal way to wash my knives. I really don't remember if the directions said anything about not putting them in the dishwasher, so I'm sorry my review may not be of substantial help to you, sorry.

Purchased 3yrs ago on Black Friday $12.99 deal with $10 rebate. Use ours everyday, still look new. Knives are washed in dish washer. Purchased 2 sets this Black Friday weekend to put away for our teenagers.
