Yes, the Cuisinart kettle carafe sits on a base for heating purposes. The base has the plug.

There is a base that the kettle sits on. The base plugs into an outlet.

Yes. It sits on a base the same diameter as the bottom of the kettle. There is a type of knob in the center of the base which fits into the kettle itself which is how the element inside heats up. The element is under the inside of the kettle, and never touches the water. It heats the water very quickly

Yes it does. We have been using for about 2 weeks now. Love it! Looks cool on the counter and works great. Great feature is it keeps The water hot atna stable temp for 30 min if you desire. I hope this helps. .
