The toaster will accommodate a slice about 5" x 5". I just tried a slice of rye we have and that's how it measures out and that slice fits but loaves can vary quite a bit. We frequently get the Turano Italian bread loaves and with those we have to frequently either flip or cut in half for the wider slices in the middle.
