Yes, that is basically what we use them for where I work. You should get plenty of time to save your work and shut the unit down during a power outage.

That being said, what i would recommend would be the pc and one monitor on battery and the other monitor on surge, that would increase your time to either hope for power return or to continue use before shutdown. As for how long it would keep it running, if you connect it to your PC and install the PowerPanel software, it will give you an estimated runtime based on its current load. If you are looking for a longer uptime than 5-10 minutes I would definitely go with a bigger one though. I have the LX1500GU as well and with its current load (wires are all managed so I'm not 100% sure but I believe my modem, router, pc and 2 LCDS) its bouncing between 42 and 50 minutes of runtime. However that's at near idle, I am positive if I were running a game or doing anything to push my video card that would be significantly reduced.
I would recommend:

With a 500W PSU and 2 monitors, you could overload it if you are running max load on the PC, like overclocking and using a big video card at hi FPS, but normally the PSU will NOT draw full power, so it should be fine for 10 minutes or so of standby power. If you are seriously into overclocking, you might be more comfortable spending a little more for a 1000 VA backup (600 watts output) or 1500 VA (900 watt) unit. The 1500VA unit should give you 30-45 minutes of backup. BTW NEVER plug a laser printer or heater into a UPS system! Switch-on currents from those can damage the unit.

If the computer is used for light tasks the unit would be fine but with heavier loads from things such as gaming or video editing, a larger unit would be recommended to avoid an overload.
