Hi JohnW, thanks for the question. The 890-joule rating is for surge protection only, it measures how much spike/surge energy the UPS can absorb, not how long it can run on battery. Battery runtime is a separate spec. For the SX950U, runtime is rated at up to 7.5 minutes at half load and about 2 minutes at full load (510W).
