“For some reason, on all my games I am barely breaking 20 fps when on high settings on a 144hz monitor and 1440p. Even when I drop it to 1080p and low settings, I only get 30-40 fps. Does anyone know how to fix this or is the pc just bad?”

Make sure you are plugged into the display port on the gpu and not the motherboard.
