“I am thinking about buying this computer. I was wondering if the only mesh area for airflow was on the case was at the top, based on the pictures provided. If so does that mean that the computer often overheats due to the case not having good airflow?”

There is a mesh vent on the top of the system but also in the front (the long way, up and down). I have the PC sitting in a desk side cabinet made for PCs. There is only about 1" clearance on the top and about 2" on each side. My PC stays cool. Granted, I do have a 120mm fan in an opening of the desk to blow in cool air but this is all.
