Yes, I bought an HDMI adapter to use with the with my VGA monitor until my new HDMI monitor arrived. For a $7 HDMI adapter it worked really great. Keep in mind that you are not getting the full benefit of the video card by using a regular VGA or DVI monitor. If you are already making a large investment on a great computer might as well upgrade the monitor as well.

Please try again later.If it going from HDMI to VGA, you need an active adapter to convert the signals from digital to analog, If it going from HDMI to DVI-D, the adapter can be passive since both output and input use digital signals.
