“What would be a good monitor to go with this computer under $250? Using for gaming for a 12 year old. Also can a smart tv be plugged in as a monitor? I know the graphics are not as good but is this possible?”

You can definitely find a nice 1080p 144 to 165 hertz monitor within that price range, and yes it would 100% be possible but just make sure the 3050 can run well with your tv's resolution !
