This product does require neutral wire. I have one and a ground so I don’t know how it would behave without one. You MIGHT get away with tying the neutral and ground together but you need to consult manufacturer.

However, we have a no-neutral 3-wire switch that is scheduled to release in mid-to-late March. So if you don't have neutral wires, you should be able to use the new switch when it does release.
