“Is the C by GE app required to control this hardware, or can the switch be "discovered" by other apps and controlled by them instead of the C by GE app? Same question for the smart plugs mfged by C by GE.”

I needed the app to install it but afterwards I have been using Alexa to control them. Hope that answers your question.
