No, you do not need a second modem. There are some settings you need to set manually in the second router. Your first router is configured to your modem's IP and Dns settings. Your second router needs to be configured to your first router's IP settings.

If you want to achieve multiple wireless routers you may want to consider a wireless extender or bridge. For the wired side fo the house you may want to invest in an unmanaged switch. It really depends on your connectivity needs.
