Yes, the knobs are metal and very substantial. They are also backlit so that you know a burner is on (I have a bad habit of leaving one on after a low simmer when the flame is not as noticeable) . We replaced a GE gas cooktop with silver painted plastic knobs and the difference in look and feel is significant. The grates are much heavier too and the whole unit has a very solid, professional feel to it.
