The shelves in this unit are adjustable and removable, so you most certainly can lay call wine bottles on their sides. It is important to note though that the shelves do not have individual curved depressions as would be in the case of a wine refrigerator. Still, your wine bottles can fit in there just fine laying down, provided that you are not looking for the exact same type of presentation you will find in a "wine only" refrigerator. Another caveat that would apply to any situation where you are storing both beer and wine in the same unit, is that you would have to select a single temperature that is a happy medium for both beverages. We have been really impressed with this particular compact refrigerator in both looks and performance. And when you add the versatility of use it is a great package.
