“I have an old laptop which I transferred files from onto a new laptop. I did the data transfer through geek squad. My new laptop's hard drive had a catastrophic failure, are the files on my old laptop still accessible? Or does it get wiped during transfer”

Unless specifically asked to do so, moving data from one computer to another will not delete any data from the source drive(s).

See the Geeks and they should be able to help. If your new laptop still has a service plan they should transfer all again at no charge based on my previous experiences. Go with a Solid State hard drive this time. Very well worth it.
