This camera is definitely water resistant as stated, but must be protected from direct downpours - in other words, it cannot be used outside without overhead protection, otherwise it gets soaked. We have had this system for several years with no problem. It is mounted under the eaves of our home close to the body of the house where it is protected from downpours(soaking). The lens doesn't even get wet when it rains, although I'm sure the side of the camera does, but not to the point of soaking. We have another of these cameras in our backyard protected by a wooden bird feeder as a roof (it helps if you are handy). Has been working perfectly, camera lens doesn't get wet in a downpour and the picture is great.
