• Hello John, thank you for the question. The PhoenixM2 lets you watch live footage without a SD card as well as recorded footage on the monitor that is included. There is no need for extra software! If you need to view it on your PC/MAC it is already formatted to work in any media player. Defender Support

• Yes you can. Do not press the motion button. When you are ready to start press motion. But for continuous recording none stop press Rec.
